Teachers won't take part in provincewide job action

Elementary teachers with the Greater Essex County District School Board won't be taking part in job actions planned across the province next week.

As part of an agreement to enter binding arbitration reached last month between the local unit of the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario and the board there will be no teachers' job action and the board will not initiate a lockout.

"Locally, we will not be entering into a work-to-rule," said local unit president Hilda Watkins.

After talks to hammer out a contract for 2003-04 made little progress last month, an arbitrator decided to enlist a fact finder who is still at work.

Teachers with many boards across the province that don't have such restrictions are planning to begin job action as early as Tuesday.
